It has been a couple of weeks now since the last BMC Grand Prix at Watford which bring the nations best middle distance runners together. The next of these events is set to take place at Oxford with there being the famous inclusion of the Mile (1609m) distance.
Watford BMC – Gold Standard (15th July)
The previous BMC meeting came at Watford in the form of the Gold Standard meeting which has a higher entry standard, bringing out excellent competition. This event was no different with the Men’s A 800m being the stand out race of the day. Richard Charles, a 1:47 800m runner would pace make, taking Gareth Warburton and Elliot Giles through the bell in about 51 seconds. The pace would be maintained all the way through the second lap with Giles taking a large amount off his personal best, winning in 1:47.55.

As for the start lists which have just been released for the Oxford Grand Prix, they offer some very strong races. Notably, the women’s A 800m includes British track star of Jenny Meadows who has already run 2:00.55 outdoors this year! As for the men’s race, Elliot Giles will be looking to take his recent form into this race against veteran Anthony Whiteman.
The Men’s A Mile race also looks to be a very good race. The likes of Cameron Boyek returns from his final performance in the U23 European Championships to race against GB runners of Luke Gunn and Ross Millington. This would offer the opportunity for there to be a sub 4:00.00 mile being run which would be great to see, especially with the pace to be set at a fast 1:57 through 800m.
